Mark Moss

Mark had been writing songs on and off for some 50 years but had never got around to finishing them.

He started "I Love Porthcawl" during the Covid lockdown coincident with Christine - his late wife's - illness, when she told him that she liked the chorus

Mark gets his inspiration from the beautiful scenery, rich history and colourful characters he meets in his loved home town of Porthcawl. He tells us about his inspiration here.

I have been writing songs on and off for some 50 years and never finished them. I started "I Love Porthcawl" during Covid lock down coincident with Christine - my late wife's - illness, when she said she liked the chorus. I walked late at night through the stormy winter and to the seafront and past the unique famous 'Mermaid' and the inspiration came to me to finish the song after she sadly passed away in February this year.

This a story of not only the brave sailors who lost their lives but of the remarkable courage of lifeboat men who regularly risk their lives voluntarily helping others and in this case the crew sadly died alongside those they tried to save.

Boat remains can be found on the rocks and the lifeboat was burned nearby, as is the tradition.

As with the other numbers this song is inspired by real life observations of hopefulness and/or hopelessness in others.

As the song describes, Human not Homeless is another's perception of oneself.

I was asked to write a song by the wife of an old (young!) friend as he turned 65.

This was not easy but as I was listening to Paul Simon and "The Boxer", "The Golfer" came to my mind.

After 'resting' my wetsuit for very many years, I ventured out again last year joining lots of others down on Coney Beach (sometimes on Rest Bay).

There's no experience quite like it and the perfect antidote to any negative emotions. The sheer joy emanating from others of all ages as they battle with the waves is infectious and this song captures just a little of the spirit to be found on the beach.

This song is inspired by the perceived isolation and sadness of a long term (seven years) Big Issue seller.

During Covid lock down when people queued to send presents at Christmas time my heart went out as the long winding queue largely ignored her and a song was born.

This is a fitting upbeat song and celebration of Porthcawl and tribute to the thousands of individuals who either have visited or live here.

I guarantee you will be tapping your feet and joining in well after visiting our unique town. A reminder of why they came and why they will return again and again and again!

This song was triggered by Porthcawl's famous Elvis Presley Festival.

The girl who sings like Elvis was a child prodigy born in Norway, and grew famous for singing, amongst others, Billie Holiday and Elvis Presley songs as a child. She is no longer a child and performs and records regularly.
